According to released information, the live-action Naruto film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Known to Marvel fans for directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, he is also involved in developing Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Beyond having an experienced director familiar with blockbuster adaptations, Lionsgate is taking a bold step by holding a global casting call to find young actors to play the members of Team 7, instead of choosing well-known child stars.
This approach aims to connect with international audiences early in production. Searching worldwide for actors could also help the film attract attention from markets beyond Japan and the United States.
Masashi Kishimoto Expresses Confidence in the Adaptation
One key reason fans feel optimistic is Kishimoto’s involvement. The Naruto creator not only approved Lionsgate’s adaptation but has repeatedly expressed trust in the production team.
In a recent statement, Kishimoto said: “Right now, miracles keep happening to me.”
Although he did not specify what these “miracles” are, his words show a very positive outlook on the project’s development.
Currently, aside from confirmations from Kishimoto and Lionsgate, details about the story or cast remain limited.
25th Anniversary Celebrations Include Other Mysterious Projects
The live-action film is not the only project expected to mark Naruto’s 25th anniversary.
Fans have been hearing rumors about new projects, including a four-episode mini-series announced but delayed since 2023, and a large-scale production reportedly planned in China.
However, most of these plans lack official updates. Some sources suggest delays due to extended production schedules or other external factors.
So far, the only release on schedule was the Naruto Shippuden DVD set, which launched in May. This indicates that new Naruto projects are still progressing slowly.
