One Piece: 5 Devil Fruits That Can Counter the Holy Knights’ Regeneration

How can you defeat the seemingly immortal Holy Knights without advanced Conqueror's Haki in One Piece?

According to the latest developments in One Piece, the immortality of the Holy Knights comes from a deep-sea pact made with Imu. Thanks to this contract, no matter if their bodies are severed or crushed, they automatically regenerate to their original state. So far, the only way to slow this process is by using advanced Conqueror’s Haki to inflict wounds that “cannot close” instantly.

But without relying on Haki, is there any Devil Fruit power that can pierce through this immortal armor? Here are the top 5 candidates based on their unique abilities.

1. Mero Mero no Mi (Boa Hancock)

No matter how powerful regeneration is, it still requires a living body to function. Hancock’s Mero Mero no Mi has an incredibly strong ability to turn targets to stone. When a Holy Knight is completely petrified, their living cells freeze.

At this point, there are no wounds to heal and no blood flow. Their immortal contract becomes useless because biologically, they are no longer “living” to regenerate. Mero Mero no Mi doesn’t defeat immortality through damage but by eliminating the essential condition for it to work.

2. Hobi Hobi no Mi (Sugar)

Sugar using Hobi Hobi no Mi

Sugar’s Devil Fruit is one of the most “illogical” powers in the entire series. With just a touch, a Holy Knight turns into a toy, losing all willpower. Most importantly, all memories of them vanish from the world.

Regeneration means nothing when your body’s structure is completely altered into an inanimate object. However, the biggest obstacle here is Imu. The spiritual connection between Imu and the Holy Knights likely allows him to detect this change immediately and intervene.

3. Hie Hie no Mi (Kuzan)

Kuzan using Hie Hie no Mi

Although Kuzan has never shown advanced Conqueror’s Haki, his Ice Fruit is the natural enemy of movement. Unlike physical attacks that cause wounds easily healed by the Holy Knights, Kuzan’s cold stops all bodily functions.

When a target is completely frozen, their cells enter a “clinical death” state. If the body can’t move or divide cells, regeneration halts indefinitely. As long as the ice block remains intact, the Holy Knight is sealed in a permanent hibernation.

4. Magu Magu no Mi (Akainu)

Akainu using Magu Magu no Mi

Akainu’s power is destructive and leaves permanent scars (just look at Luffy’s scar or Kuzan’s legs). Imagine a Holy Knight trapped in a lava pool created by Akainu with no escape.

Their body would be continuously burned and then regenerated by Imu’s power. This isn’t a quick death but an endless painful loop of destruction and recovery. Immortality becomes a cruel curse for anyone daring to face the Red Dog.

5. Yami Yami no Mi (Blackbeard)

Blackbeard using Yami Yami no Mi

Blackbeard’s Darkness Fruit can nullify the Devil Fruit powers of its target. The question is, does Imu’s immortal contract count as a Devil Fruit ability?

If Imu’s power is the source of all Devil Fruits or if he himself possesses the ultimate Devil Fruit, then Blackbeard’s touch could act as a “switch” to disconnect that contract. The moment Teach touches Imu, the entire immortality system of the Holy Knights and the World Government’s Five Elders could instantly shut down. This is why Blackbeard only began his moves after acquiring this special Devil Fruit.
