Nami’s enduring importance to the story
Nami was one of the first to join Luffy on his journey to the final island in search of the legendary One Piece treasure. From the very beginning, she played a vital role despite being physically weaker than some crew members like Luffy, Zoro, or Sanji.
As the Straw Hats’ navigator, Nami’s role is arguably the most crucial when sailing the Grand Line. The Grand Line is full of surprises and dangers, and only the best navigators can safely guide their ship from island to island.
Of course, while not physically dominant, Nami has grown significantly stronger after the two-year timeskip, gaining essential knowledge for battles in the New World. What some fans might not realize is that Nami holds the key to defeating some of the World Government’s biggest threats, including the World Nobles and the Holy Knights.
Nami’s key role against the Holy Knights
Nami has always been important, but she becomes even more crucial in One Piece’s Final Saga. As many fans know, those who have made pacts with Imu gain powerful abilities, including immortality. With this power, they cannot be killed and can resurrect endlessly. However, even such power has limits, as shown in the Elbaf arc. Gaban demonstrated that immortality can be bypassed using advanced Conqueror’s Haki.
Yet, very few characters can wield Conqueror’s Haki, let alone its advanced form. This is where Nami shines. During her two years in Weatheria, she learned to use Wind Knots, which, as seen in Egghead, can store Haki.
Joy Boy knew how to use these Wind Knots to store his strongest Haki, allowing Emeth to repel the World Nobles and defeat the Navy. Nami could store Luffy’s Conqueror’s Haki in these knots and pass it to those who cannot overcome immortality with their own Haki. She will be an invaluable asset in upcoming battles and once again become a central figure, just as she has been throughout many One Piece arcs.
