Roronoa Zoro is one of the strongest swordsmen in One Piece, constantly improving to fulfill his dream of becoming the Greatest Swordsman in the World. To reach this goal, he must surpass his current limits. Creator Eiichiro Oda has confirmed that Zoro’s ultimate transformation is Asura. Although Zoro has only shown limited control over Asura so far, he will need to fully master this ability to defeat his final rival, Mihawk.
Oda Confirms Zoro’s Final Transformation as Asura
Unlike Luffy, Zoro does not have a Devil Fruit power, so he lacks many transformation abilities. However, he possesses a unique fierce aura, which Oda confirmed long ago during the Enies Lobby arc. It was there that Zoro first displayed this aura, frightening even Kaku.
Zoro summoned Asura at the end of a fight and defeated Kaku with a single strike. However, it’s clear he hasn’t fully controlled it yet. He only uses Asura when absolutely necessary, such as against Pacifista or Kaido. While Asura is Zoro’s ultimate form, to become even stronger, he must learn to control it anytime he wants, making it easier to overcome his enemies.
What Zoro’s Final Transformation Means for the Story
Mastering Asura is hugely significant. It will give Zoro the tools he needs to surpass Dracule Mihawk. Fans know that although Zoro can use all three types of Haki and coat his swords with Conqueror’s Haki, he still hasn’t reached Mihawk’s level.
When Zoro blackens his swords, they become more powerful. Only by fully mastering Asura will he be able to match Mihawk’s skill. In other words, Zoro’s dream of becoming the Greatest Swordsman in the World will only come true once he masters Conqueror’s Haki, black sword techniques, and complete control of Asura.
