The Japanese manga industry has recently faced some challenges, especially with several major and popular series coming to an end. Overall sales have been less promising, even for the most well-known manga. However, Japan’s leading manga publisher, Shueisha, has just revealed the top 3 best-selling manga of the year.
Shueisha’s Top 3 Manga Revealed
Shueisha is one of Japan’s largest publishing companies. It owns many famous magazines, the biggest being Weekly Shonen Jump. Shueisha also publishes other magazines like V Jump and Ultra Jump.
Shueisha certainly holds some of the biggest manga stories in history, and recently they revealed the best-selling manga of this year. It’s no surprise that One Piece tops the list. The latest volume sold 1.11 million copies, nearly double the sales of the second-place title, despite some signs of decline.
Right behind One Piece is Spy x Family in second place. This series continues to show strong appeal, with the latest volume selling around 640,000 copies. This number is expected to rise further thanks to the release of a new anime season.
Coming in third is Kingdom, a series that usually ranks near the top but this time lands in third place. Although Kingdom is a beloved series, it has yet to have a truly high-quality anime adaptation. The latest volume sold about 440,000 copies.
While World Trigger didn’t make the top 3, it appears to be the only series with potential to break through, trailing Kingdom by just around 100,000 copies.
Kaiju No. 8, One Punch Man, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Dandadan, and Chainsaw Man See Moderate Sales
While the top 4 titles pull ahead, several other Shueisha manga still boast impressive sales. Kaiju No. 8 performed very well and was once expected to crack the top 3. Unfortunately, the series recently ended abruptly.
Another notable title is One Punch Man. Although still active, its sales have dropped sharply by over 60%, raising concerns among fans.
Among newer series like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Dandadan, and Chainsaw Man, Dandadan’s sales are somewhat disappointing, especially considering it has an excellent anime adaptation.
